With over a billion users around the globe, it’s safe to say that everyone knows Facebook (almost everyone), and how it can help individuals find long lost friends, relatives, work associates or businesses to connect with.
Companies quickly learned about the benefits of establishing a Facebook fan page. They discovered a new platform where they could easily post news releases, videos, promotions, etc. which eventually leads to more brand awareness, interaction from the clients with the company and of course, more revenue generated.
Now, a new social network has been rolled out in Australia, Housenet.com.au, one which has focused specifically on the real estate market.
The company was founded by Darren Moffatt and Ben Carew. Moffat, who now holds the title of CEO and Founder, is an award-winning businessperson with sixteen years’ experience in the finance and property-related sectors. Carew holds the title of Head of Design & Development, Co-founder, and is Housenet’s resident tech-head, design champion and product manager. In 1999 he founded Illegal Design, a Sydney-based graphic design and web development studio.
Moffat and Carew observed how social networking sites have played a pivotal role in world events such as the “Arab Spring,” how social network sites have become central to modern life, and are often conduits for incredibly positive change, so it led them to pose the question: “what if this technology was applied to the local housing market?” and so Housenet was conceived.
And just to clarify, by ‘social networking technology’ Housenet doesn’t mean TwitterFacebookYoutubeLinked In etc, they mean the kind of technology these companies use. These networks are now so big and so generic, that they have become utilities for the web. Like electricity and phone companies in the ‘real’ world, they are the essential connections of the internet. Whilst they can each be effective for housing in their own ways, the fact remains they were not created expressly for this purpose. And so, by virtue of their very broad nature, they inevitably have limitations when used for this specific end.
This is where Housenet comes in. Housenet has been designed from the ground up to only help users do property, and property-related business, better. While Housenet is fully integrated with other social media, and is both consumer facing (B2C) and business facing (B2B), it’s just about real estate.
The company believes that a creative use of social networking technology can massively improve the way people navigate the various property markets, and the results they obtain. They have built a unique platform that organises and connects all the types of people and businesses who participate in housing, and one that encourages industry in particular to be much more transparent.
As Housenet grows, the company hopes any enhanced success and efficiency that their members enjoy today, might actually lead to a more pervasive change for the better, tomorrow.  http://www.ljgrealestate.com.au
